Curricular Fit

Overview

The goal of Home Sweet Home is for Alberta students to make a collective and personal commitment in working towards an Alberta future where environmental sustainability is addressed, and to celebrate their collective commitment to making a difference.

This is a collaborative effort engaging students in community-based learning activities focused on environmental education issues using SuperNet enabled technologies.

Video conferencing and other blended learning technologies open the doors to new interactions for students. These interactions between students, community members, and experts in the field will enable a deeper understanding of the interdependence of man and his community --- and the sustainability of our environment, our province, our home.

Curricular Ideas

Through this project students may:

  • identify, represent, and assess aspects of their local Alberta region, contributing their research findings to this website.
  • review postings by other students from around Alberta to get a sense of Alberta regions, Alberta environmental interactions and impact, and processes already in place to address environmental concerns.
  • engage in online discussion via video conferencing to develop a collective sense of patterns and trends in environmental use and sustainability of that environment. These discussions will be enriched through interactions with related NGO's, industry representatives, and other experts.
  • both locally and provincially via video conferencing, collaborate to develop a "Top 10" list of environmental responsibilities that they will commit themselves to taking on. "We will."
  • illustrate their understandings through images created by the students themselves, to be posted on this website.
